Pamela Bowell

Pamela Bowell is Visiting Reader in the School of Culture, Education and Innovation at Bishop Grosseteste University College, Lincoln, where she teaches in the Department of Culture and Creative Arts. For 10 years Chair of National Drama, the UK’s leading professional association for drama teachers and theatre educators, she has now returned to the Executive as ND Director of Conferences and CPD. She is also an active freelance drama and education consultant and author with a deep interest and experience in drama as a means to enable learning.

She is:

  • an outstanding drama practitioner who is nationally and internationally renowned for her work with children, young people, students, teachers and theatre educators. With them she explores the ways in which drama provides a creative and compelling means to promote and develop learning across the curriculum.
  • a dynamic and sought-after national and international conference workshop leader and speaker
  • an established and regular consultant, INSET and CPD provider in the UK and beyond
  • a researcher and widely published writer on drama for learning
  • a successful and respected conference director
  • co-editor of Drama Research: international journal of drama in education and Drama – the magazine of professional practice.
  • a life-long advocate of drama as a potent and compelling process for learning and expression

She has been:

  • a secondary school drama teacher in both the UK and Australia
  • a local authority advisory teacher and theatre-in-education actor/teacher
  • a teacher educator
  • inaugural Chair of the Standing Committee for Children and Youth, AITA/IATA
  • a consultant, executive member and post holder in a range of national and international governmental and professional bodies
