Runnymede Drama to Promote Writing
Working with North Runnymede Learning Partnership, Surrey, Pamela is in the second year of a project using process drama to promote writing. In association with the literacy coordinators from the 11 primary schools involved, she developed 6-week units of work for all age groups from Year R to Year 6 (4 - 11 years) and delivered staff training to support teachers in implementing them.

Results from the project have been very encouraging, with schools reporting good progress in writing, especially among boys at the lower levels of attainment.

Phase 2 of the project is now underway and Pamela is delivering a further training programme to support teachers in planning process drama for themselves. The units of work generated by Phase 2 training will be implemented in the Autumn Term supported by Pamela. The project will be assessed to identify the impact on writing attainment.

'The writing showed a level of empathy and detail we had not previously seen. The biggest bonus we found was that all the children were full of ideas about what to write and all we had to do was teach them the correct way to present them.'
Primary Headteacher, Surrey

'I like doing drama because it makes my imagination work'

National Drama Online CPD Materials
Pamela is leading for National Drama in an exciting and innovative project to develop online, drama-specific Continuing Professional Development materials. This is part of a broader TDA-funded initiative to draw upon the experience and expertise of key subject associations to enhance and develop CPD opportunities in their particular fields.

National Drama Online CPD Materials Pamela is working on this project over the next year starting with a series of regional meetings with teachers. These will identify ideas and concerns about drama CPD to steer the National Drama project team so that the website offers materials for drama that are of value to all those who teach about and through drama. The website will go live in July 2009.
